First , Are you using the right brush?

Toothbrush which you use should depend on your oral health

There are 3 types of bristles- Soft, medium and Hard.

The American Dental Association(ADA) recommends use of soft bristles with angled or multi layered toothbrush for efficient and harmless cleaning of teeth.

Soft bristles are advised for all age groups and don’t cause any bleeding while cleaning the gum line.

Hard and medium bristle brushes should be used carefully.

Medium bristles are common choice for people as they feel it has better cleaning of teeth. If they are used in improper way or too hard it can lead to wear away of tooth enamel or gum bleeding.

Hard bristles are commonly used for denture cleaning and stain removal, and are not recommended for daily use as it can wear of tooth enamel.

Large vs small toothbrush head?

Have you noticed your toothbrush head size? It’s recommended that your toothbrush should reach the furthest corners of your mouth.

Manual or Electric/Powered toothbrush?

Both types of toothbrush can effectively clean the teeth and it depends on your preference.

Second, How much time do you brush ?

Follow the 2-2 rule !

ADA recommends brushing your teeth for 2 minutes 2 times a day.

This time is much enough to cover all your tooth surfaces.

Brushing for long time doesn’t mean you are brushing right !

 

Finally, How do you brush your teeth??

Are you moving your toothbrush side to side?

Then you are doing it in the wrong way.

Learn the right method of tooth brushing !

 Place your tooth brush at 45* degrees to your gum line and move it away from your gums that is in up and down motion, vertically.

Clean your outer surface, inner surface and then chewing area.

Also remember to brush your tongue. Be gentle near your gum line.
